Happy Birthday Kate!

Hello everyone!  If you're new to my Blog, welcome! And if you're one of my regular followers, thanks for joining me again!

A very special lady turned 25 last week. Birthdays are a very special celebration at the best of times and none more so than someone with a life threatening condition.  Kate is one of Stephanie's Rett Sisters and I have known Kate and her mum for a very long time.

I wanted to create a card that represented Kate's life.  At the moment she is smashing life goals and living her dreams - hence the dream catcher theme. I am really pleased with the end result although after photographing, I decided to add some bling.  What a difference that made!

And with the added Gilded Gems:

Lots of products were used to create my card but it was totally worth it for such a special lady.

Supplies needed:
  • Blossoms in Bloom stamp set for sentiment
  • A Grand Kid stamp set for inside sentiment - So Smart, So Fun, So Sweet and So Wonderful
  • Night of Navy card stock card base
  • Gold Foil card stock
  • Artistry Blooms Designer Series Paper (DSP)
  • Whisper White card stock for the inside and sentiment
  • Night of Navy Ink for sentiment
  • Gold Hoops Embellishments
  • Forever Greenery Trim Combo Pack
  • Scalloped Lace Trim
  • Forever Gold Laser-Cut Specialty Paper
  • Gilded Gems
Other items:
  • Mini Dimensionals
  • Glue Dots
  • Fine Tip Glue Pen

To make the dream catcher, I found a You Tube video by Elaine Dotson from Elaine's Custom Cards.  For the 'feathers' on my dream catcher, I trimmed down the large fern leaf from the Forever Gold Laser-Cut Specialty paper and attached them with Fine Tip Glue Pen

Sending Love and Hugs - Colour INKspirations Challenge #82

Hello again!  Thanks for popping in and looking around!  Well, remember last time when I said I wasn't happy with my card that I had created for the last Colour INKspiration Challenge.  Well, I decided to have another try.

This time it's a much simpler design and yes, I am happier with the outcome.  I can see a lot more of this design in my future due to the simplicity and quickness of putting it all together.

Same colours but no metallics this time.  I personally keep cards of this theme understated and simple.  I did add a bow but because it was a colour already used, the ribbon blends in rather than making a statement.

To start with, I used a Just Jade card from the Flowers For Every Season Memories and More Card and Envelope Pack.  I love these cards. The white feature on the card front can be used to frame a smaller arrangement or it can be covered if you want to create something larger.  They also co-ordinate with the Flowers for Every Season Memories and More Card Pack.

The trickiest part of this card was creating the sentiment banner.  For this I firstly stamped 'Sending You Love and Hugs' from the Framed for You stamp set on Melon Mambo card stock.  My piece of card stock is roughly 2 3/4" x 3/4" and I stamped towards the right hand side.  The black 'lace' underneath was created using the Pick A Label punch, trimming each end then lining them up and gluing them to the strip of Melon Mambo. If you make them wider that the Melon Mambo strip to begin with, it's quite easy to trim the ends off once dry.

Everything else is pretty straight forward.  I started with a piece of Whisper White card stock measuring 4" x 3" and randomly stamped the large floral image from Fancy Phrases in Memento Black Tuxedo ink.  I wrapped a piece of Just Jade ribbon around this piece and tied a bow on the left hand side.  I glued this down on my Just Jade card centering it within the white frame printed on the card.  All that's left is to glue down the sentiment banner.  I used the foam strips for this but you could just as easily use dimensionals.

That's it!  I didn't time myself but I'm fairly sure I had it all put together within 1/2 an hour.  This would be an easy card to mass produce once you had all your pieces organised and the sentiment banner glued together.

This card will be sent to a new friend who is going through a bit of a tough time right now.

Supplies Needed:
  • Fancy Phrases Stamp Set
  • Framed for You Stamp Set (you could easily use one of the sentiments for the Fancy Phrases Stamp Set)
  • Flowers For All Seasons Memories and More Cards and Envelopes
  • Whisper White card stock
  • Melon Mambo card stock
  • Basic Black card stock
  • Just Jade ribbon
  • Memento Black Tuxedo ink
  • Pick a Punch Label punch
All product are available for purchase here in my Online Store.

Thanks so much for stopping by, I hope you will join me again sometime.  Please leave a comment in the section below with your thoughts on this card and if you have any questions, please also leave them in the comments below and I will happily answer them.

Happy Birthday! - Colour INKspirations Challenge #82

Hi Everyone! And a very big welcome from me!  There's a new colour challenge over at Colour INKspirations Challenge and while I love the colours, I actually found it difficult to put a card together.  I will still enter it because it's always good to show others there can be struggles when creating.

Warning - this card is a quite product heavy.

For this card I started with a Melon Mambo base, added a Gold Foil matte layer followed by a second matte layer in Basic Black.  I created hexagons in the challenge colours using the Tailored Tag punch and for added interest, stamped tone on tone on the Melon Mambo card stock and used the Tasteful Textiles Embossing Folder on the Just Jade card stock.  I also punched out a couple of hexagons in the Magic In This Night Designer Series Paper (DSP)

To create hexagons, trim a strip of card stock to 1 1/2" to any length and the place centrally in the punch taking care to have equal gaps on each side.  I found the easiest way to make sure everything was lined up properly was to trim a piece of grid paper and place this into the punch  and mark the grid lines with a permanent marker equally on each side. Now the punch is marked for any future hexagons I might like to punch.

I stamped the large floral image from the Fancy Phrases stamp set in Versamark Ink on Whisper White Card stock then heat embossed in gold. Once cooled, I fussy cut around the image leaving a small white border.  I did the same process for the Happy Birthday sentiment but on Basic Black card stock and then die cut it using the banner die from the Tasteful Labels dies.  I wasn't completely happy with how this turned out.  While I think the gold embossing looks a little dull on the black, I felt this was the best choice in terms of colour.

I went ahead and arranged my hexagons and and when I was happy, I glued them down on the piece of Basic Black card stock leaving a small black border between each one. Once it was dry, I flipped it over and trimmed where the hexagons overhung the black card stock. It's a bit difficult to see, but I have put the top two DSP hexagons and the gold foil hexagon up on dimensionals for added interest.  The gold embossed floral image was placed over the top of the hexagons and adhered, using either glue on the higher hexagons or dimensionals where the level was lower.  Gold trim from the Forever Greenery Trim Combo Pack was wrapped twice and tied to give a little more bling to the card. The sentiment banner was also adhered using dimensionals.

For the inside of the card, I stamped the same large floral image in Memento Black Tuxedo ink in the lower right hand corner of a piece of Whisper White card stock.

Supplies Needed:
  • Melon Mambo card stock card base
  • Goil Foil first matte layer
  • Basic Black second matte later
  • Whisper White and Just Jade card stock, Gold Foil and Magic In This Night DSP for the hexagons
  • Tailored Tag punch
  • Basic Black card stock for the sentiment banner
  • Fancy Phrases Stamp Set
  • Itty Bitty Greetings Stamp Set
  • Inks:  Melon Mambo, Basic Black and Versamark
  • Gold Embossing Powder
  • Tasteful Textures Embossing Folder
  • Gold twine from the Forever Greenery Trim combo pack
